Over the years I've learnt to always change my skincare items when the season changes. We change our clothes and our makeup to adapt to the weather so it makes sense that we change our skincare too. I couldn't get by using my Winter skincare items in Summer, I'd be breaking out left right and centre, and I couldn't user my Summer products in Winter, they just wouldn't deliver the goodness my skin needs when the weather is dull, dry, wet and cold.
I always need products with more moisture, that are more nourishing and more heavy duty in Winter, whereas in the warmer months I opt for light weight oils, gel products over cream, and find myself needing more deep cleansing items. I don't think you need to change every single product, sometimes it's not necessary, but also it might not be feasible, skincare can be pricey! I'd always recommend changing at least your moisturisers in Summer and Winter. My moisturising products are a lot thicker this time of year and really focus on keeping my skin plump, glowing, and dry patch free!
These 5 products are ones that I would highly recommend for Winter skincare. Some are newer discoveries for me and some have been loved for a long time. Each are perfect for keeping skin hydrated, full of moisture and full of glow for this time of year.
Charlotte Tilbury, Magic Night Cream. £100 for 50ml or £35 for 15ml
This is a super thick heavy duty cream, it feels slightly tacky on the skin and I find this stays until I cleanse in the morning, but then I'm left with the most plump and silky soft skin. This pot of cream is packed full of ingredients including retinol and bionymph peptides to boost creation of essential collagen, which leaves skin so smooth, plumped and glowing. A pricey product but one worth the investment if you suffer with very dry skin, for older skin, and if you travel frequently then this would be a godsend for your skin!
Fresh, Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream With Super 7 Complex. £42 for 50ml or £15 for 15ml
This is a lovely thick classic moisturiser, it melts in to the skin quickly and leaves behind a dewy and fresh look to the skin, The 'super 7 complex' is a hydrating and radiance-boosting blend of 7 super-charged ingredients, such as blue green algae and vitamin E, that promote a youthful looking complexion. This is a perfect moisturiser for tackling early signs of ageing and those of us that love a dewy look to our complexion.
La Mer, Moisturising Cream. £60 for 15ml or £120 for 30ml (Also goes up to 500ml)
Not one to be recommended lightly, it is expensive, but this is the only product that instantly soothes my skin when my rosacea plays up which tends to happen when it gets super cold or when I travel long haul. This is one I mostly take with me for travelling, so I get away with buying the smaller pots, but I like to have one in my daily skin care bag just in case. When my rosacea flares up it can be extremely sore and tight feeling, within a minute or so of applying this La Mer cream the pain has gone by about 85% and that tight feeling disappears shortly after. A few days of applications and my skin looks and feels back to normal, this is a little miracle worker for me. If you suffer with a skin condition, or suffer stressed out skin, then it could be worth testing out the smaller jar. Money well spent in my opinion.
La Mer, The Lifting and Firming Mask. £55 for 15ml or £175 for 50ml.
I became slightly obsessed with La Mer products in the run up to my wedding and came out the other side with I'd say 5 or 6 products I was absolutely obsessed with. Not all have been repurchased due to the price tags, but this is one of them and slightly more affordable for the smaller size. I find my skin can easily look a bit...deflated I guess would be the word. It just looks a bit drooping and in need of a pick me up. Enter, this face mask. I tend to apply at night (as you don't wash this mask off) or first thing in the morning before a busy/important day as it really does feel like my face is uplifted, refined and brighter. This is another travel godsend as my skin looks awful after travelling but this mask sorts that right out!
Aurelia Probiotic Skincare, Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser. £58 for 60ml
This feels like velvet when you're applying it, and is scented with oils such as lavender and neroli for a beautiful sleepy aroma. It feels very thick when it's first applied but it sinks in slowly to the skin and in the morning my skin has that gorgeous dewy glow. I find this cream to be ideal if my skin is more hormonal or stressed and there are blemishes or spots, any angry spots are calmed down and left over marks disappear.
